URL Component Encoder and Decoder Online

The URL component encoder converts reserved characters in a single query or path value to percent-encoded form. It is useful when inserting spaces, non-ASCII text or separators into a URL component.

Encoding a full URL is different from encoding one parameter value. Process components separately to preserve structural characters such as ampersands and equals signs.

How to use it

  1. Enter the single component you want to convert.
  2. Choose encode or decode.
  3. Check that separators remain in the correct places in the final URL.

Example

Input: product name & price

Output: product%20name%20%26%20price

Who is it for?

  • Developers building API URLs
  • Teams debugging query strings
  • Web integrators

Privacy and limitations

URL component conversion runs in the browser and does not send the input to an external API.

Frequently asked questions

Why encode URL components?

Percent encoding gives reserved or non-ASCII characters a transport-safe representation inside a URL.

Should I encode a complete URL?

Usually encode the parameter value or path component only. Encoding the whole URL can change its separators and break the link.

How are non-ASCII characters represented?

Their UTF-8 bytes are written as percent-encoded sequences.

Does encoding encrypt a URL?

No. Encoded components can be decoded and should not be used to hide confidential values.
