Text to Binary Converter: UTF-8 Encode & Decode

Encode text as UTF-8 binary bytes or decode complete 8-bit groups. Invalid binary and malformed UTF-8 are rejected.

This tool processes its main input in your browser and does not send it to an external API. Fonts and interface assets may load from external providers.

Text to Binary Converter: UTF-8 Encode & Decode

The converter encodes text into UTF-8 bytes and displays each byte as an eight-digit binary group. It can decode the same groups back into text, including multilingual characters and emoji when the byte sequence is valid UTF-8.

Binary output is a representation of UTF-8 bytes, not encryption or compression. Decoding requires complete 8-bit groups that form valid UTF-8; malformed groups are rejected instead of silently converted.

When is it useful?

  • Inspecting the UTF-8 bytes for a short word or phrase.
  • Decoding a space-separated binary example back into multilingual text.

How to use it

  1. Enter text to encode, or paste binary digits to decode. Spaces between complete byte groups are optional.
  2. Choose Text to Binary or Binary to Text.
  3. Review the output and remember that this tool uses UTF-8 bytes; other file formats may use different encodings.

Example

Input: Hi

Output: 01001000 01101001 (UTF-8 bytes for Hi)

Who is it for?

  • Students learning binary notation
  • Developers inspecting simple ASCII examples
  • People exploring basic character-code conversion

Privacy and limitations

Text conversion uses TextEncoder and TextDecoder in the browser; the input is not sent to an API. UTF-8 encodes visible characters as one or more bytes.

Frequently asked questions

Is the output a UTF-8 byte sequence?

Yes. TextEncoder converts the string to UTF-8 bytes, which are displayed as eight binary digits per byte.

Does every character use eight bits?

No. Each UTF-8 byte is shown with eight bits, but a Unicode character may use multiple bytes.

Will emoji round-trip correctly?

Valid UTF-8 output for emoji can be decoded back correctly. Each emoji may use several bytes, so it appears as multiple eight-bit groups.

Is my input stored or uploaded?

The conversion runs in this page and the text is not sent to an API. Clear sensitive input after using a shared device.
